So I now have the Neophyte ritual of Waite's Independent & Rectified Rite and I'm in the process of transcribing it from the digital scans provided by Freemason's Hall.
That will be a followed by a detailed analysis and then a comparison with (off the top of my head):
The 1899 version featured in Torrens. To the best of my knowledge there isn't anything earlier that is easily accessible.
The Regardie/Stella Matutina version that we all know and love.
The version from Waite's Fellowship of the Rosy Cross
And the Masonic Emulation 1st Degree.
I'm also going to compare the Obligation across them all to see what the differences are.
I have new information as to Underhill's early schooling which is hitherto unseen, which while not forming part of my own monograph I have offered it to the Evelyn Underhill Association when they are back up and running.
I've still got to firm up EU's relationship with Arthur Machen, but think due to the nature of the GD/IRR this will prove impossible. I have also got to cross reference EU's articles in the Horlicks magazine. Is this how EU met Waite - either through the magazine, or Machen?
It's clear that all of EU's documentation appertaining to the GD/Waite has been expunged for the sake of her reputation - it is desperate to contemplate what letters Charles Williams disposed of, as well as those we know he never returned.
